Greg Mohney has been selected as Brookville Equipment Corporation’s Employee of the Month for October.
Greg has been employed at Brookville Equipment Corporation for the past 19 years. Throughout Greg’s tenor here, he has held many positions, and has learned about almost every facet of Brookville Equipment Corporation’s manufacturing process. Greg started out in the Fabrication shop in 2005, following by working on air plumbing for locomotives in the framing department, then he moved to the machine shop. After some time had passed, Greg moved into final assembly, where he was the Crew Leader and Labor Hand for streetcars, while also working on locomotives. Following his time in final assembly, he moved to Crew Leader for Welding & Framing, then to Crew Leading for Mining Final Assembly, and finally he has landed in his most recent position of Manufacturing Engineer Tech.
As a Manufacturing Engineer Tech, Greg’s main duties are to quote jobs and provide shop support. The jobs Manufacturing Engineering quote are smaller jobs already designed from the customer. It is the Manufacturing Engineering team’s job to quote piece part jobs, which do not require to go through Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Greg’s favorite type of equipment to work on is full size locomotives. Although, he enjoys the challenge of all BROOKVILLE products to come through the door. Greg started at Brookville Equipment right out of college. Therefore, a lot of the skills he has learned was through on the job experience. Greg said, “one of the most impactful skills I have learned is leadership and how to better myself.” He discussed some of the challenges he has faced since starting his tenure at BROOKVILLE. The biggest challenge of them all, has been most recently, learning how to be in the office. Greg has never had an office job before and in his most recent switch, moving to a Manufacturing Engineering Tech position has bought a lot of differences in his normal day to day duties. Although throughout the past several months, he has been adjusting to the change, however, it is still something he is getting used to.
When Greg was asked, “How do you keep yourself motivated at work?,” he said “I am always trying to find new ways to better myself and find better processes for the company. Since day one, I have always tried to work as efficiently as I can and do my best to ensure my tasks are getting done, as well as the people around me. We are all working towards the same goal, and I want to make sure we are putting our best foot forward.” Everything at Brookville Equipment provides a challenge to someone in the company. Many projects are none of which anyone at the company has done before. That is exactly what Greg Mohney loves about his job. He said, “Brookville Equipment brings a challenge with everything we work on. There aren’t very many projects that are alike, and that’s what I love about this place. I love coming in everyday and it is something new to work on.” Greg also noted how there aren’t any other companies in our local area who manufacture what we do, and that is something really special about his job.
One of the most important lessons Greg has learned through his career is to make sure to think before you speak. Greg said, “It is important to think before you speak, because you don’t want to say something to hurt people or their feelings.” This doesn’t apply to only Brookville Equipment, but in all aspects of life. As Greg has spent his adult years working at the company, he has learned a lot from when he started as a 20 year old. The lessons he has learned here will go with him through the course of his lifetime.
During his free time, he enjoys working on house projects and hanging out with his family.
