Sean Baier has been selected as Brookville Equipment Corporation’s Employee of the Month for January.
Sean has been employed at Brookville Equipment Corporation for the past five years. Sean has held the position of Field Service Engineer since the start of his career at BROOKVILLE.
As a Field Service Engineer, Sean’s main job duties at Brookville Equipment typically includes traveling around to different projects, provide customers with proper training of various equipment, spend time closing out projects post-delivery, as well as field modifications and other miscellaneous field repairs.
Sean’s favorite type of equipment to work on is streetcars. He says, “I love visiting our different streetcar locations and having the opportunity to work on them. The streetcars are filled with electrical components, and with my background as an electrical engineer, it really interests me to be able to work on the complex machines that are our streetcars.” Sean discussed all of the different skills he has learned and elaborated on during his last five years at Brookville Equipment. He discussed having a better knowledge of electronics and learning how to troubleshoot. Sean also has developed his mechanical skills, as well as his public speaking skills.
Sean’s position as a Field Service Engineer has brought its own set of challenges, between lengthy stays to finding comradery between coworkers. Sean has experienced challenges with being away from home a lot, not having access to the home shop, as well as managing different time zones. However, one thing that has always helped him is knowing it is always a team effort and he has the support of his coworkers.
When Sean was asked, “How do you keep yourself motivated at work?,” he said “Out in the field, it is pretty easy to stay motivated. Once I get to my location, I get a list of things that need fixed and I work my way down through the list. Generally, the faster I work and get through the items, the sooner I can go home. When I am back in the office, I tend to have a lot of paperwork I need to complete, like writing CDRLs, however, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and looking for project close out is always a great motivator.” Sean also discussed how even though he has an electrical engineering degree, he also loves working with his hands. He really enjoys that every day is something different.
Sean’s position often involves being on the road, whether he is in Labrador City, Canada or Tempe, Arizona, Sean is always in a different place. Sean says, “One thing that makes me love my job is my love for travel. I love seeing all the different sites our equipment is at and I love getting to work in the field. It is so satisfying getting to see our equipment go from the shop to getting implemented into the field. When the vehicles leave our facility, they are operable but not ready for the customer to use them. One of my jobs is assisting in getting the vehicles ready to revenue service. It really give you a sense of pride to see the finished product being implemented in the field.” Sean also discussed how it is very nice to meet all of the different customers in the various locations.
One of the most important lessons Sean has learned through his career is it is never one person’s individual effort. It is always a team effort. Sean said, “Anytime we are struggling with something in the field, I know there is a great group of coworkers there to assist me, from inventory, final assembly, high bay (electrical), engineering, field service, part sales or project management, someone is always there ready to lend a helping hand.” Sean expressed this is why he likes working at Brookville Equipment so much, everyone is always there to help.
During his free time, he enjoys his time spent at home, by hanging out with friends or playing videos games. Sean also enjoys traveling and has been to many exotic places, like Bali, Thailand, Antarctica, Australia, South American, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
